Why Melbourne chooses us

Local engineers who know Victorian conditions

Melbourne's building stock runs from Victorian-era weatherboards in Richmond to slab-on-ground estates in Point Cook and steep, cut-and-fill blocks around Eltham. Each of those brings its own footing, soil and heritage problems — and reactive clay across much of the metro area means a design that works in one suburb can be wrong in the next. That local knowledge is what we bring to your project.

Fixed-price quoting

You get a scope and a number before we start. What we quote is what you pay, with no variations appearing at invoice time.

Built for approval

We document to what registered building surveyors and Victorian councils actually ask for, so your permit isn't held up by resubmissions.

We talk to your team

We'll deal directly with your builder, architect, draftsperson or surveyor so you're not stuck relaying technical questions.

Answers, not jargon

You'll get a plain-English explanation of what we found and what it means for your build — not a report you need an engineer to interpret.

How it works

Structural engineering in Melbourne, explained

A structural engineer works out how a building carries its own weight and everything acting on it — the roof, the floors, the furniture, the wind coming off Port Phillip Bay, and the ground moving underneath it. In Victoria, a registered building surveyor won't issue a building permit for structural work without engineering documentation, which is why most people find us at the point where their draftsperson or builder says they need drawings.

Common questions

Structural engineering FAQs

The four questions we're asked most. Feel free to call any time — no question is too small.

How much does a structural engineer cost in Melbourne?

Cost depends on the scope — a single beam check for a wall removal is far cheaper than full drawings for a two-storey extension. We quote a fixed price up front so there are no surprises, and if you find a lower quote for the same scope we'll match it and give you 10% off. Send us your plans for a firm number.

How long does it take to get structural drawings?

Turnaround depends on the complexity of the job and how complete your architectural plans are. We give you a realistic date at quote stage and stick to it. If your building surveyor or council has a deadline, tell us when you enquire and we'll work to it.

Do I need a structural engineer to remove a load-bearing wall?

Yes. Removing or altering a load-bearing wall changes how loads travel through your home, so a registered structural engineer must design the replacement beam and its supports. Your building surveyor will require stamped structural drawings and calculations before issuing a building permit.

Which areas of Victoria do you cover?

We work across all of Greater Melbourne — inner suburbs, eastern suburbs, northern and western growth corridors — plus Geelong, the Mornington Peninsula and regional Victoria. If you're unsure whether we reach your site, call 03 7048 4006 and ask.
